Llano rolls out the camouflage carpet for white-tailed deer hunters each fall during the Llano Outdoor Sports Expo. The event serves as a warm welcome and appreciation for hunters who roll into Llano County for opening weekend of Texas’ white-tailed deer season, which runs Nov. 1, 2025, through Jan. 4, 2026. The 2025 expo is Friday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Llano Visitor Center, 100 Train Station Drive.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department forecast a Texas-sized white-tailed deer population for the 2025-26 season. Texas has the largest white-tailed deer population in the country, and Llano is well-known as the “Deer Capital of Texas,” having the most dense deer population in the state. The area’s historic reputation for boasting a bounty of bucks can be traced back to when Native Americans and Spanish explorers inhabited the region.
The Llano Outdoor Sports Expo is a fun, festive time for hunters and the Llano community. Hunters attending the expo can pick up a goodie bag, while supplies last, chock full of hunting-related freebies and coupons. The event has a party-like atmosphere with free food, drinks, and live music adding to the enthusiasm. Local outfitters and vendors sponsor giveaways, and the chamber will raffle a UTV.
In addition to the fun and freebies, the event offers hunters an opportunity to enrich their knowledge of white-tailed deer with a lineup of free educational seminars led by TPWD and local outfitters.
