Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que has been a Llano institution since 1962. Family-owned and operated, Cooper's is known for cowboy-style pit barbecue cooked over mesquite coals. Guests order their meat straight off the pit outside, then carry it inside to enjoy with homemade sides, pinto beans, and scratch-made sauce. The Big Chop — a two-inch-thick pork chop — is the signature order. Former President George W. Bush declared it his favorite barbecue restaurant, but Cooper's remains as unpretentious and welcoming as ever.
