Water and Wilderness

Lake Buchanan is the largest of the six Highland Lakes, stretching through limestone canyons and cedar-covered hills. The open water is both a beautiful sight and a perfect place for fishing, pleasure boating and relaxing.

Striped, white and largemouth bass are among the top fishing draws here, and many people choose to rent boats, kayaks or other water equipment to get out and enjoy the lake.

There is a breath taking sunset 6/7 nights a week out here & the stars - wow! You’d have to see them to know how beautiful they are.

Buchanan Dam, the small community at the lake's southern end, is the social hub for the area and offers marinas, outfitters, and locally owned restaurants to enjoy.

Fun On and Off the Lake

Buchanan Dam offers convenient outfitters who can provide services that make your life and trip easier – from marinas and boat rentals to bait and tackle shops, guided tour operators, and small local retailers. The area also has several restaurants and pubs that serve up crowd-pleasing fare and gain loyal followings, including traveling families and weekend adventurers who come back over and over to enjoy their local favorites.
