Llano County warms up with March events

March ushers in a change of seasons in Llano County, and that means more events and outdoor activities. March 2023 offers plenty to do here, indoors or out. Learn about earth art, catch a local theater production, check out a fiddler competition, say “Happy Birthday” to a beloved state park, savor the sights and smells of a chuck wagon cook-off, and come to a downtown garage sale to buy, sell, or both. Celebrate Enchanted Rock’s 45th anniversary as a Texas state natural area, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s centennial, and Texas Independence Day. Head for the park’s picnic area for hands-on, outdoor activities at this fair-like event and explore Enchanted Rock’s distinctive geology.

‘CRIMES OF THE HEART’

This tragicomedy tells the story of three sisters raised in a dysfunctional family who reunite after one of them shoots her abusive husband. Presented by the Llano Community Theatre.

LLANO EARTH ART FESTIVAL

Friday-Sunday, March 24-26

Grenwelge Park, 199 E. Haynie St. in Llano

At this fun and unique festival, watch a rock-stacking championship, view the works of earth artists, listen to live music, hike a wild river trail, and attend workshops.

JUNK IN THE TRUNK GARAGE SALE

8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 25

Courthouse square, 801 Ford St. in Llano

A perfect convergence of declutterers and packrats selling unwanted items from their trunks or truck beds while others snatch up the bargains. Come to buy or sell and stay for live music and entertainment.  

LLANO RIVER CHUCK WAGON COOK-OFF

Thursday-Saturday, March 30-April 1

Badu Park, 300 Legion Drive in Llano

The Old West comes alive in Llano County as chuck wagon cooks gather for a weekend of fun and competition. Cooking teams check in and set up on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, the public arrives to view the judging, listen to live music, and enjoy a noon meal. Tickets for an authentic chuck wagon meal go quickly and are on sale now.   

LLANO FIDDLE FEST WEEKEND

Friday-Sunday, March 31-April 2

Fiddle fans, this is your weekend, with a day-long fiddle competition and music by Moe Bandy. Also enjoy a cowboy church service, featuring The Gimbles.
