Lake Buchanan Lodge: Rustic without roughing it

Lake Buchanan Lodge
Guests at Lake Buchanan Lodge enjoy a rustic ambiance.

A stay at Lake Buchanan Lodge in Llano County gives you an unbeatable combination of rustic ambiance with modern conveniences, a prime Texas Hill Country location, and ample space for you and your fellow vacationers. Movie buffs will recognize this splendid home as a shooting location for the 2017 film “Cabin Crew.”

Walk past the expansive porch through the front door and into a two-story, open-concept great room that features huge, 160-year-old beams brought in from Wisconsin. A large stone fireplace anchors one wall and mounted trophies accent others. The overall effect reminds one of a classic national park lodge. Within this cavernous interior, there’s plenty of room for your group to lounge, visit, or watch TV on the 60-inch set connected to Dish Network.

The room opens to a spacious, well-equipped kitchen and dining area that culinarians will appreciate. A grill and barbecue smoker stand just outside, waiting to meet up with your brisket, ribs, steaks, and other foods that explode with flavor from fire and smoke.

The covered front porch extends the length of the house and has plenty of places to sit and relax, making it a go-to spot for socializing, stargazing, and wildlife watching. Cap off the day by gathering at the nearby firepit as stars fill the dark sky.

For more active outdoor pursuits, Lake Buchanan Lodge has you covered. Play volleyball, pitch horseshoes or washers, hike the property’s 8 acres, or fish Lake Buchanan with an experienced guide. For the younger set, there’s a playground with a two-story castle playscape.

This four-bedroom home can comfortably sleep 16, making it a great fit for family get-togethers, reunions, or retreats. The bedrooms sleep eight and the two upstairs lofts sleep an additional eight guests on twin beds.

Off the property lie attractions so near they’ll barely move the needle on your gas gauge. Drive 10 miles to Tow to visit the award-winning Fall Creek Vineyards and sample its handiwork. Explore two state parks, Inks Lake and Longhorn Cavern, just 14 and 20 miles away, respectively. Take a 17-minute drive to Llano and enjoy its scenic riverfront, homestyle food, and burgeoning art scene.

No matter how you spend your days and nights at this Lake Buchanan getaway, you’re bound to come away with fond memories of Lake Buchanan Lodge, its scenic surroundings, and its rustic charm.
